    Idk I have hope for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the cast has talked about it very affectionately and even Michael Keaton has said the production process felt very similar. In regards to the improvisation and practical effects. The story seems to be original and inventive, and to me the trailers don't look too saturated in cgi, as Burton has said he wanted to do it with as many practical effects as possible. Also Winona Ryder has said the Beetlejuice sequel has been in the works for well over fifteen years, with her and Burton simply waiting for the right time/story to pop up. Versus with Hocus Pocus 2, it felt more rushed/cash grabby. But time will tell whether it holds up! May eat my words but I hope I won't!

    Hocus Pocus 2 didn't work because the Sanderson sisters were basically treated as the good guys the movie was self aware of its own meta popularity. Beetlejuice 2 I think will work because while they're softening him a little bit you can tell he's still an ass hole, he's screwed over a lot of people and its bitting him in the ass

    All of VC andrews books are part of a series. So the first book shows the horror that they went though, and the second book is them dealing with those scarres and how they continue to affect them even after they leave. Back in the 80’s we didn’t know all the things we all know about trauma… these books were just kind of a window into people surviving these terrible childhoods and dealing with the fallout. And a lot of us also had some pretty shitty childhoods so we could identify in certain ways with these characters. I can’t tell you how many people I know from childhood who literally raised themselves and their siblings or were raised by siblings because parents where truly absent… like not even home- at the bar, spending the night with men, passed out drunk, sometimes not even in the same town or state. Listen to a song called “hell is for children,” by Pat Benetar. Also do remember it was a different time. We didn’t have access to things, so this was shocking but also intriguing to our minds. Most people really didn’t know anything about child development, effects of trauma, etc… we didn’t have creepy pasta and the internet, we didn’t know everything about everyone via social media. So this book was also very voyeruistic into a life of unimaginable horrors… we also didn’t have dateline, snapped… etc… what would you say was “the point” of all the unsolved murder shows, and other shows about the horrors that people perpetuate upon one another? What was the point of gone girl or Saw… and all of its sequels. People are drawn too these horror stories about people doing unimaginably horrible things to one another.” I feel like the point of THIS book, for these kids…. Is hope and survival. They have hope and faith in their mother in the beginning but then they learn they can only depend on themselves. They give up the hope that someone will come and save them and they rescue themselves and they continue on because they have hope for the future. Are they naive to feel like they will be ok now? Yes of course they are! The follow up definitely shows how the events of book one left their indelible mark on them.

    I don’t understand how the OG movie didn’t have the incest… the whole thing is based on incest- from the parents to the children…. How did it even make sense?

    Not sure if any else is aware, but there was already a Hocus Pocus sequel in BOOK form. It’s been a while since I last read it but [ SPOILERS!! ] … … … … essentially there’s this magical rock that played as a backup to the black flame candle that was passed down in the Sanderson line. Then later on there’s additional spells that switches out Danny, Max and Allison will other WITCHES IN HELL. So instead of stealing kids’ youth, the Sandersons are getting rid of adults. SOOOOO much better than the movie in my opinion.

    The thing with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is that you have the same director which should make it way better. And this one is being released in theatres vs one that went straight to video. And there is very little cgi in the new one as the effects were mostly practical and stop motion just like in the original. It probably looks weird because we haven't seen it in a while. Whole reason I'm pumped to see this though because I miss those kind of effects. Gives it a little but of authenticity.

    • @Iseeyourefake
      @Iseeyourefake 2 дні тому

      The first Beetlejuice was also released in theaters. Also when you look at the trailer you can definitely see a lot of cgi. Yes they did a lot of practical effects but you can tell from the trailer the heavy cgi as well. Regardless I am also excited.

    I know most fans of the Alien franchise don't like Alien Covenant because all of the aliens are CGI and both Alien and Aliens used practical effects. I'll be seeing this one Saturday and I have good faith that Fede Alvarez will make a decent sci-fi horror film.

    I was privileged enough to make it to one of the 3 only so far screenings of the film in Australia (after a 5 hour flight to the film festival) and I thought it was funny you thought it didn’t over explain because my biggest problem with it was that it over explained at the end (to the point that it started getting laughs in our screening, so maybe that’s part of the fun), I think I just got ahead of the film mainly due to the title 😆 I still enjoyed it though it really felt like early 80s euro horror to me, like if Argento had made Cure For Wellness or something

    I was one of the cops covered in slime that gets knocked out of the way in the hall of the office building and in other scenes holding a gun which I was instructed to have shaking in my hands by the director. And whilst the movie had some big names of Australian acting in it, it also has to be one of the most shit films of all time. But it was bit of fun at the time.

    Oh I did forget to add this but you mentioned a problem with CGI and I actually think the biggest problem with CGI is not its use but the fact that all TV and movie media is doing the most 4K HD high output films they can... I swear I watch movies on my father-in-law's great big TV that I grew up with and those movies suddenly you can tell they're on a film set where you couldn't before and I think that's actually the big problem... we are simply watching movies that are so hyper realistic that we can't do practical effects and make them feel real.... cgi is affected by this... I really do feel some great movies that I love are you watch them in high definition and they feel like I'm watching a daytime drama which is hyper unrealistic looking

  • @thesam19841
    @thesam19841 6 днів тому

    I've always loved the delightful campiness that is Hocus Pocus and have been enjoying it ever since the mid 90s, it would play around Halloween on Disney Afternoon on normal TV, I think NBC... Before the 2nd movie came out there was a book that came out that called Hocus Pocus, the all new sequal... it actually is two books in one... a written retelling of the first movie, and a new story that is similar to the 2nd movie, but deviates quite a bit and goes off in different directions... I was excited as I thought the new movie would be very similar to this book, which was excellent, but if this book was once the basis of the movie script, its all but gone in rewrites just leaving a skeleton of what was good and everything replaced for the most part being substandard... Disney is the real problem as of late with remakes, as they are pummolling every entity they own and squeezing it for more money... While there are lots of movies being revamped the last 10 years, there are still a few good ones done right, such as the most recent Ghostbusters because they were written and directed by the original creaters (and this is not a slight on the reboot, which I really enjoy, but it is its own thing) Although that formula can backfire, such as in Dumb and Dumber To where the jokes felt mostly the same and nothing new was brought to the series except the story itself... I mentioned these two sequals because I just recently watched them, I am a big fan of sequals and yes they are hard to get right and very few are better than the original, but when you love the premise of the stories, you want more... Finally when it comes to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice a lot of care has gone into the movie it's in the same location they meticulously rebuilt the Maitland's house as well as the town... Tim Burton while he has had a few misses, most of his work is really good and it is said that he wrote Beetlejuice goes to Hawaii purposely to be terrible so that they wouldn't make an awful sequel as a cash grab... all the original players are in it, minus a few for obvious reasons and also they were not willing to revisit the characters unless it was well done... I don't think there is going to be a problem with a lazy script or the problematic of being a cash grab and I think Hocus Pocus 2 biggest problem which was that there were too much corporate interference which is Disney in itself.. I really did enjoy watching your take and you've got a great speaking presence and I hope that your videos continue to flourish
